• Select a range of size for projects - from small and manageable for your colleagues to do (e.g., reduce single-use throw-away item usage, bring in electronics for recycling), to larger ones for your workplace as a whole (e.g., get an energy audit, or divest from fossil fuels).

• Developing a greenhouse gas inventory is a good step toward measuring and managing your organization's climate change impact. An inventory is a list of emission sources and the associated emissions quantified using standardized methods. Many organizations are taking this step and by doing so find that most of their emissions come from building heating and cooling, fleet vehicles, electricity use, and employee travel. Search online or ask AI for ideas to help organizations identify and achieve cost-effective greenhouse gas emission reductions.

• For-profit companies prioritize projects that increase revenue or reduce costs, making senior management more likely to approve green initiatives with clear financial benefits. Cost-saving measures like energy efficiency upgrades, waste reduction, or water conservation directly impact the bottom line. Additionally, projects that enhance brand reputation and attract eco-conscious customers can boost revenue. Employee engagement and retention are generally seen positively as well. Keep this in mind when pitching your projects to senior leaders if you work at a for-profit organization.
