Team for the Planet

Team for the Planet is an international nonprofit that's launching solutions to drastically reduce our GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions in order to achieve carbon neutrality as soon as possible. They raise money through collective citizen and business investments, which are then used to identify, finance, and scale impactful climate solutions. Rather than keeping technologies proprietary, they make all innovations open-source so they can be freely replicated worldwide, maximizing their environmental impact. Their model focuses on collaboration, transparency, and accelerating the transition to a sustainable economy through shared global action. They have identified four complementary and essential areas of action: Zero Emissions – Develop energy sources and materials that do not produce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Energy Efficiency – Improve the performance of existing systems to reduce energy consumption and associated emissions. Mindful Consumption – Reduce overall demand to systematically limit GHG emissions across the entire production chain. Carbon Capture – Capture GHG emissions, both directly and indirectly, to help reduce their concentration in the atmosphere. Currently, they are placing particular focus on addressing greenhouse gases generated by the digital sector. According to a 2019 report by the French Senate, the digital industry was responsible for 3.7% of global GHG emissions and 2% of France’s total emissions. Projections suggest this share could increase to 6.7% of France’s total emissions by 2040. If the digital sector were considered a country, it would rank as the world’s fifth-largest emitter of CO2.
