Choose eco-friendly candy wrapping

Description
One of the tricky things about our favorite sweet treats is that the packaging is usually made up of mostly low-quality plastic, which means that it is too difficult to be processed by recycling plants. Even if you put candy packaging in the recycling, it will likely end up in the landfill. Plus it increases the cost of recycling because these wrappers need to be sorted out from things that can be recycled.
When possible, purchase candy with recyclable packagings, such as foil, paper, or cardboard. Buying in bulk is another option to avoid extra wrappers. You could even make your own candy and wrap it in environmentally friendly paper.
This is admittedly an ambitious action to take on. It is easier to find candy with plastic wrappers. Do what you can and reward the products that have a more sustainable approach, but do not fret if you are not perfect. Hopefully, the future will bring better options.

Tips
• A key is to avoid plastic and packing that mixes materials. The general rule is that the fewer materials something is made of, the easier (and less expensive) it is to recycle.
• If you are looking for a certain type of candy, check to see if it is available in bulk. If it is self-service candy, be even more eco-friendly, and bring a reusable bag to use!
• Want to have some fun making your own candy? Do a quick search online to look for inspiration and something that satisfies your sweet tooth.
