Description

Our planet is suffering from a fever that worsens as we burn more fossil fuels and clear forests. Climate change is causing sea levels to rise, wildfires to rage, and floods to devastate. We are responsible for informing ourselves and others and inspiring the next generation to take action. Only with knowledge can we advance solutions to improve our world.

As educators, whether formal or informal, we can raise awareness about climate change and sustainability. There are many resources that can help us teach students of all ages about the climate crisis, such as websites, lesson plans, modules, games, and assignments. We can use these tools to enlighten people in various settings, such as classrooms, community groups, workplaces, or casual conversations.

Be part of the solution by educating others. Jump in and start sharing knowledge to wake people up!

Tips

There are two basic steps to engage in climate change education. First, find opportunities to share knowledge. Second, prepare some great information to share tailored to your audience. To get you thinking about it, here are some more suggestions.

Start with the basics. Explain what climate change is, what causes it, and its impacts on the environment and our society. Use simple and clear language, and avoid jargon or technical terms. You can use examples from your own experience or from the news to illustrate your points.

There is no need to reinvent the wheel. There are a wide range of sources to borrow from below for different circumstances.
